The first NEW ENERGY INTELLIGENT CONFERENCE was grandly held in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province from November 5 to 6, 2024. Hosted by The Yangtze Institute for Solar Technology (YIST), the event was co-organized by the Yangtze River Delta National Technology Innovation Center, the Photovoltaic Professional Committee of the China Green Supply Chain Alliance, the State Energy Energy Research Institute, and the Jiangsu Collaborative Innovation Center for Photovoltaic Science and Engineering.

Centered on the theme of "Breakthrough, Integration, Intelligence and Low Carbon", the conference attracted many experts, scholars and entrepreneurs for on-site exchanges, including Li Junfeng, Standing Director of the China Energy Research Society; Fan Jihong, former Chairman of the State Power Investment Corporation Science and Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd. and Member of the Management Committee of the Yangtze River Delta National Technology Innovation Center; Chu Junhao, Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Dean of the Institute of Optoelectronics at Fudan University and Chairman of the Advisory Committee of YIST; Huang Zhen, Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and Dean of the Institute of Smart Energy Innovation at Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Shi Zhengrong, Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science and Engineering; Ding Jianning, President of Yangzhou University; Shu Hua, Vice Chairman of GCL (Group) Holdings Co., Ltd.; and Li Shijun, Co-founder of Shenzhen Jiejiawei New Energy Equipment Co., Ltd.

In his speech, Fan Jihong, Member of the Management Committee of the Yangtze River Delta National Technology Innovation Center, introduced the background of the NEW ENERGY INTELLIGENT CONFERENCE. He pointed out that China is currently in a critical stage of economic transformation and upgrading, and the new energy industry has been entrusted with a more important strategic position. The construction of YIST is a crucial measure to implement the national energy strategy. The smooth development of YIST will help drive technological innovation and achievement transformation, deepen the integration of industry, academia, research and application, foster a sound industrial development environment, and provide enterprises with a more stable and sustainable space for development.

Chu Junhao, Member of CAS and Chairman of the Advisory Committee of YIST, stated in his speech that he has witnessed the entire process of YIST's preparation over the past two years. As a bridge connecting scientific research and industry, and a hub for dialogue between China and the international community, YIST has achieved certain results since its operation two years ago. It has twice carried silicon-based photovoltaic cells on low-orbit satellites, becoming China's first R&D institution to develop space solar cells that balance power generation efficiency and cost-effectiveness. This achievement has enhanced the core competitiveness of China's photovoltaic industry and promoted the industrialization and wide application of photovoltaic technologies.

Shen Hui, Director of YIST, also delivered a speech, expressing his gratitude to the attending guests and expressing great expectations for the future technological progress of the photovoltaic industry.

During the conference, the opening ceremony of "PV School" and the inauguration ceremony for its first principal were held. Chu Junhao (Member of CAS and Chairman of YIST Advisory Committee), Huang Zhen (Member of CAE and Dean of the Institute of Smart Energy Innovation at Fudan University), Shi Zhengrong (Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science and Engineering), Ding Jianning (President of Yangzhou University), Professor Fan Jihong (Yangtze River Delta National Technology Innovation Center), Shen Hui (Director of YIST), Professor Ned (University of New South Wales, UNSW, Australia), Pierre Verlinden (Chief Scientist of YIST), Song Dengyuan (Chief Technology Officer of Daqo New Energy), and Liu Zhifeng (Vice President of GCL New Energy) jointly launched the opening of PV School. Director Shen Hui awarded the sash to Pierre Verlinden, the first principal of PV School. Dr. Pierre stated that he is willing to cooperate with photovoltaic partners worldwide to provide valuable training for the entire industry.

At the conference, the silicon-based foldable solar array for commercial satellites, independently developed by YIST, was officially released.
The event attracted over 300 on-site participants and tens of thousands of online viewers via live stream, allowing them to learn about the latest research achievements, technological applications and market trends in energy green transition, photovoltaic, energy storage and hydrogen energy industries. It provided a platform for exchange and cooperation within the industry, as well as cross-energy integrated applications. The Source Innovation China Entrepreneurs Forum was held concurrently.
The conference content was extremely exciting. Reports from elites in various fields will be continuously updated—stay tuned!
